Caring for Your Rlc. Volcano Empress 'Volcano Queen'
Light: Place your Volcano Empress in bright, indirect light. It loves a little sunshine, but too much direct light can scorch those beautiful leaves. A north or east-facing window is an ideal spot.
Water: Water your orchid thoroughly when the potting mix feels dry to the touch. Typically, this means watering about once a week, but factors like humidity and temperature can change that. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes to prevent sogginess; orchids prefer to dry out a bit between waterings.
Humidity: This beauty thrives in high humidity! Aim for 50-70% humidity levels. If your home is on the dry side, consider using a humidity tray with pebbles, or mist it gently.
Temperature: The Volcano Queen enjoys warm temperatures. Keep her in a cozy range of 70-85°F during the day and about 60-65°F at night to encourage blooming.
Fertilizer: Feed your orchid every 2-4 weeks with a balanced orchid fertilizer when it’s actively growing (spring through early summer). Just dilute it to half strength to avoid overwhelming her!
Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when you see that the potting media is breaking down. Use a chunky orchid mix that allows for good aeration. This helps prevent root rot and keeps your plant happy.
Pests: Keep an eye out for pests like spider mites or aphids. If you spot any unwelcome guests, gently wipe them off with a damp cloth or use a mild soap like Dawn dish soap, just a 1/2 teaspoon in a cup of water.
With the right care, your Rlc. Volcano Empress 'Volcano Queen' will reward you with stunning blooms and vibrant health, bringing a spark of beauty to your greenhouse! Happy growing!
